Dental hygiene is something that we are all taught as children. We know the things we should be doing to care for our teeth and avoid getting cavities. But even as adults, we sometimes need reminders to help us keep on track. If you’re looking to improve your dental hygiene, delve into our tips on how to keep that mouth looking great and smelling minty fresh!
- Brush regularly! You should be brushing your teeth at least two times per day, maybe more. After every meal would be fantastic if you really wanted to receive an A+ for dental hygiene. Use a soft bristle brush; hard bristles can harm your gums and cause them to recede. Speaking of gums, make sure you brush along the gum line to prevent plaque buildup there.
- Floss once a day. Flossing helps to keep your gums healthy, as well as remove food from between your teeth and prevent plaque buildup. Don’t forget to floss behind the very back teeth!
- Use the right product for best results. You should be using a toothpaste containing fluoride to help your teeth be stronger. Use antiseptic or antimicrobial products (toothpaste, mouthwash, etc.) to aid in fighting bacteria growth in your mouth.
- Visit the dentist every 6 months for regular cleanings. Professional cleanings can remove plaque buildup and tartar that your own brushing and flossing can’t get to. You can also have fluoride applied to your teeth to help strengthen them.
