Having healthy and beautiful teeth is a result of daily care and attention. What can you do every day to promote good dental hygiene? It’s really the little things that can make a difference!
Other than regularly having a dental checkup, here are 3 dental hygiene tips for healthy teeth:
- Learn the right brushing technique. Everyone brushes their teeth, but are you doing it right? The number one rule of dental hygiene that you should master is to learn the right way to brush your teeth. When brushing, your toothbrush should be placed at a 45-degree angle to your gums. Use back and forth motions in short strokes to clean your teeth. Don’t brush too hard, but use gentle movements instead. Remember to clean all surfaces — the outer, inner, and top sides of your teeth.
- Don’t forget to clean your tongue! You brush, you floss — but do you clean your tongue? Our tongues are also prone to the build-up of plaque, so it’s important to clean it as part of your oral hygiene routine. A dirty tongue can lead to bad breath and other dental problems. Use your toothbrush to brush your tongue each time you brush your teeth.
- Water is your friend! Water is great for healthy teeth in two ways. Firstly, drinking water helps to clean away any food debris in your mouth and can remove some of the stickiness and acidity from food and drinks. Secondly, by choosing water over sugared beverages, you cut down the negative effects of sugar on your dental health.
