3 Methods to Get White TeethHaving white teeth is often seen as proof that someone is practicing great oral hygiene, yet getting white teeth may be challenging for you. The trick generally is finding the method that works for you. There are methods to get white teeth, as well as reduce the problem of needing a whitener.

  1. Avoid Certain Foods and Drinks – This may be easier said than done, but if you reduce or eliminate certain foods and drinks from your diet, you may find you need to whiten your teeth less often. Avoid red wine, dark drinks such as sodas and fruit juices, and coffee. If you can’t leave these alone, then at least drink them through a straw to reduce the interaction with your teeth. Avoid berries that are dark in color, such as blackberries and blueberries. Beets are another problem. If you do eat these foods, then be sure to rinse or brush immediately after eating them. Although not a food or drink, one major cause of yellow teeth to avoid is smoking.
  2. Eat Foods That Help – Since we just took some foods away from you, let’s add some that can actually help you get white teeth. Apples, celery, and carrots, along with other healthy snacks, will actually naturally clean your teeth. A home method that might help you is to take a ripe strawberry, crush it and mix it with ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Spread this paste over your teeth and leave it on for five minutes before rinsing. You can do this a couple times a week. It won’t work as well as a whitening treatment at our office, but it can help between visits.
  3. Bleaching – While there are many over-the-counter home products to get white teeth, the methods we use are far more powerful, so you’ll get better results in less time. You should never use a home version without discussing it with us first, as you may have dental work that these methods can damage or that won’t work for.
